"Collaboration Over Control No. 2" an original mixed media painting by Melanie Fenton - 2024
A collaborative project with the sun! These two experimental pieces combine cyanotype, acrylic and oil paint on canvas. The sun and I worked together on the initial layers, the experiment didn’t go quite as planned, so I pivoted in a new direction. The process was a beautiful lesson in relinquishing control and following what arises rather than trying to force things into a prescripted outcome. In the process I couldn’t help but think about the ways in which humans have tried to control nature, and each other, rather than collaborate and cooperate. The outcome can be so much sweeter if we open ourselves to learning and reciprocity along the way.
